It’s hard to trust what American media says on this issue given how much of the We Tread On You veteran Shirt and by the same token and American economy relies on the military industrial complex. America will continue to promote tanks because so many jobs rely on producing them and exporting tanks is a multibillion dollar industry. That buys a lot of good PR. MLAW NLAW. penetrator core shaped charge. It’s kinetic energy i.e. the extreme high velocity that does the penetrating, rather than burning through. Ammo is stored slightly below the turret in the Russian tanks. The autoloader brings it up between the gunner and commander. Western tanks tend to keep ammo in an armored compartment at the back of the turret instead. I’m actually not convinced that the location of the ammo matters all too much. The pressure from a cook off is going to fill the inside of a tank very quickly and the turret popping off is the easiest way for it to vent. Suspect that the compartment that western tanks use would need to blow out, rather than in, to avoid suffering the same fate… But since it’s not western tanks getting pummeled rn, it’ll take a different conflict for us to find out.

Certainly this conflict is showing us that they cannot be used as the We Tread On You veteran Shirt and by the same token and tip of the spear against opponents armed with 2nd and 3rd gen ATGM’s though. And you cannot put them within enemy artillery range, without an effective way to shoot down drones either. Did you just say tanks are obsolete? Do you watch the news through pin holes in your glasses or are you straight up watching Russian TV? Tf… Tanks are obsolete. In this conflict a couple of guys running around with an MLAW can take out a tank. or a Javelin squad 2 miles away, and these tanks are fucked. Hell even a small drone can wreck a tank like this. Infantry can be taken out by bullets. But infantry remains not obsolete, despite the machine gun being >100 years old.
